Does giving more lead to getting more?

Dr. Adam Grant’s new book ‘Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success’ addresses this question and others as he explores how your approach; whether you are a giver, taker or matcher, determines your success. If you haven’t yet heard of Dr. Adam Grant, you soon will!

Always on the lookout for new ideas to help pharma influence ethically and effectively, I stumbled on this New York Times magazine cover story by Adam Grant, “Is giving the secret to getting ahead?”, which piqued my interest. I kept seeing his name and research pop up in articles, journals and recently in Dan Pink’s new book, To Sell is Human (check out my review of that book here). I discovered that when organizations like Google, Pixar, Apple, Merck, NFL and the United Nations want to figure out how to get the most out of their employees, Grant is often called to help.

At 31, Adam Grant is the youngest-tenured and highest-rated professor at Wharton, one of the top US business schools. Within seven years of achieving his Ph.D., he published more papers on workplace dynamics than colleagues who had won lifetime-achievement awards!

With those kinds of accolades, I was pretty excited to get my hands of a copy of his recently-released book. In it, he weaves his research and stories into easily-applied ideas that we can use to have greater impact in pharma. I loved his book so much that I had to revise my “Start with Why” module in my soon to be released program EngageRx: The 3 Keys to Patient-focused Excellence for Pharma Professionals to include his research outcomes in it.
